Ticket to ride

By Natalie ·   February 1st, 2012

I got a speeding ticket today. Hey, why the road I take into work has a 10 mph higher speed limit than the road I take leaving, I don’t know. But it does.

I’m not one of the 1 percent. I’m definitely in 99 percent territory. But it struck me how grateful I am that paying for a ticket isn’t stressball worthy. There have been times when it definitely was. I was speeding and I accepted my fate and I am so grateful that we’re in a place that I can do so. It might not stay that way, but for now, I feel blessed.

Of course, the ticket was a cherry to a not-so-great day, so I came home and watched three hours of Gossip Girl on Hulu and ate Chili’s Chips and Salsa. But I did climb 10 flights of stairs — at work the Diet Doctor Pepper is on the fifth floor. So basically when I take the stairs, I am burning calories to drink soda right? That’s what I tell myself.

Even better, I stayed late at work to get my inbox down to six emails. Made me so happy.

Laaame. I take the 30 mph road in and out and it’s SO easy to go too fast on it and there are speed traps on that road at least once a week. So I set my cruise control to 33. I know it sounds lame but it will help you avoid a future ticket :)

But also I don’t get it. The 40 mph one is IN FRONT OF A SCHOOL! How does it make sense for people to go faster there than behind the school?

I’m just totally inspired by your good attitude. Go you!

And I completely agree with your burning calories logic.

It seems like crappy stuff always happens on crappy days! But you have a good outlook on it. And now I want chips and salsa.
